Bombardier Transportation has won a contract to build 50 Zefiro high-speed trains for the Italian railway operator, Trenitalia.

The company has partnered with rail transport engineering company AnsaldoBreda to deliver the $2bn contract. Bombardier will deliver the propulsion and electrical systems, while Ansaldo will be in charge of structural parts and final assembly of the coaches. The trains will be built at Bombardier’s and Ansaldo’s manufacturing plants in Italy and will enter service in 2013, according to montrealgazette.com.
