SNCF, the state-owned railway company in France, has placed a €350m order for 34 Coradia Liner trainsets, the new generation of long-haul trains from Alstom.

The new contract is part of the project initiated with SNCF in July 2013 to renew Corail trains for the intercity lines. The trains are expected to commence operations from December 2015.

Alstom’s Coradia Liner was designed to provide intercity lines with a specific identity and improved comfort and services with an enhanced performance.

The train, which is in line with SNCF’s standards in terms of performance, comfort and services for passengers, features platform-level boarding, spacious passenger areas, new seats with upholstered armrests, a power socket and coat hanger.
The train’s floor is coated with special material to lessen ambient sounds. The train also offers large bay windows and indirect interior lighting.

The Coradia Liner, which can travel on all tracks in the conventional network, is equipped with new technical solutions such as large gangways and platforms, distributed power, and improved acceleration and braking capacity.

The bimodal, economical train uses significantly less energy and complies with all current European standards. The train, in its present configuration, has the capacity to carry up to 267 passengers.

Coradia Liner belongs to the Coradia range of modular trains. Currently, over 3,000 Coradia trains are in circulation and have travelled more than 4 billon km in Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.
