The first metro line in Shandong Province, Qingdao Line 3 is now 25 km long with 22 stations. It links Qingdao’s two railway stations; Qingdao Railway Station, located in the southwest, with Qingdao North Railway Station. The line passes through several important landmarks along Qingdao’s coastal area, including Huiquan Plaza, Zhongshan Park, Taipingjiao Park and 4 May Plaza.

Alstom supplied the OptONIX system, which includes traction inverters, motors, auxiliary converters and a train monitoring system. The OptONIX system is designed to improve operational performance and reduce life cycle costs by using regenerative electrical braking. The OptONIX system is extended by a TCMS, which interfaces, controls and monitors train equipment and processes, allowing full system integration.
“Alstom is proud to bring its efficient, reliable and sustainable transport solutions to Shandong province by participating in Qingdao Line 3. With its advanced international technology and proximity to its customers, Alstom is looking forward to continuing to support Shandong in its economic and infrastructure growth and social development,”
said Ling Fang, Managing Director of China & East Asia, Alstom.

The OptONIX traction systems as well as the TCMS for Qingdao Line 3 were manufactured by Alstom’s local joint venture (JV), Shanghai Alstom Transport Electrical Equipment Co. Ltd. (SATEE), with motors manufactured by another Alstom local JV: Xi’an Alstom Yongji Electric Equipment Co. (XAYEECO). Alstom’s Charleroi site in Belgium and Valenciennes in France provided software, while Villeurbanne and Tarbes, also in France, as well as Charleroi, provided components.

Alstom and SATEE have been supplying traction system for metro cars in China for more than 15 years. So far, 19 metro lines in China have been equipped with Alstom’s traction system including Beijing Line 6, Line 15, and Qingdao Line 3.
