Alberta Heartland Railway Ltd. (AHR), a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming Canada Inc., has signed agreements with Gasia Energy Corp. for a long-term lease at Gasia’s planned energy complex in Alberta, where AHR will construct and manage a rail terminal.
Planned Rail Terminal
AHR will lease 50 acres at Gasia’s planned energy complex in Strathcona County, Alberta, for the rail terminal. The site is situated east of the North Saskatchewan River on Highway 830, between Highway 15 and Township Road 560. The terminal’s location is near several large industrial facilities and adjacent to Canadian Pacific Kansas City and CN rail lines.
Terminal Features
The terminal, upon full construction, will incorporate multiple loop tracks, storage capacity for up to 1,200 rail cars, and a transloading area.
Strategic Significance
According to Genesee & Wyoming Inc. CEO Michael Miller, the terminal will allow Gasia and other shippers to access customers overseas, across Canada, and throughout North America through AHR’s connection to the North American freight-rail network.
