Iarnród Éireann Awards €23M Contract For 68 Maintenance Wagons
Iarnród Éireann awarded W.H. Davis a €23 million contract for 68 new infrastructure maintenance wagons, replacing 50-year-old units. Deliveries start 2027.

Iarnród Éireann has awarded a contract valued at €23 million to W.H. Davis for the supply of 68 infrastructure maintenance wagons. The UK-based manufacturer will construct the new rolling stock at its facility in Nottinghamshire.
The new fleet will replace the existing LX and LP freight wagons, which were manufactured at the Inchicore Workshops in Dublin more than 50 years ago. Each new wagon will have a load capacity of approximately 60 tons, a 33% increase over the units being retired.
Designed with a tare weight between 18 and 20 tons, the wagons will transport materials such as rails, sleepers, and track panels across Iarnród Éireann’s 2,400 km rail network. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in the summer of 2027.
This procurement is executed under a framework agreement between the two companies. A previous order within this agreement, placed in April 2023, was for the delivery of 150 intermodal freight wagons from W.H. Davis.
