Introduction

At TRAKO 2025 in Gdańsk from 23rd to 26th September, Cummins Poland will showcase the X15 and QSK60 engines, both certified to Stage V emissions standards.

Engine Specifications

The X15 is designed for smaller applications such as DMUs, delivering up to 675 hp (503 kW). The engine incorporates electronic technologies for fuel efficiency. The QSK60 is designed for heavy-duty applications, including hybrid locomotives. It features a modular common-rail fuel system and advanced engine monitoring, with its V16 configuration delivering up to 2,700 hp (2,013 kW).

Global Deployments of QSK60

The QSK60 has been implemented in rail operations worldwide, including Taiwan and South America, where locomotives operate at high altitudes in the Andes transporting freight.

European Master Rebuild Centre

Cummins Poland recently opened the European Master Rebuild Centre (MRC) in Kraków, a USD 10 million investment. The facility spans 4,600 square metres, with an additional 960 square metres for warehouse space. The MRC allows rail operators to extend engine life through rebuilds to factory original equipment standards.

MRC Rebuild Details

A Cummins QSK23 from a shunting locomotive underwent the ‘Ultimate’ remanufacture at the MRC. The diesel-electric switcher had accumulated 18,131 operating hours and covered over 100,000 kilometres since 2016. The rebuild process includes complete disassembly, cleaning, inspection, component replacement, design enhancements, and testing. The Ultimate service package includes a 12-month/unlimited hours warranty.

Last June 2025, we covered Renfe’s new, state-of-the-art Aranjuez maintenance hub, which is boosting Cercanías efficiency with a massive €69M investment. Click here to read – Future of Rail: Renfe’s Railway Technology Hub, Aranjuez: Essential Guide
