Indian Railway has Unveiled Plans for New Rail Line to Nepal

Indian Railways plans to construct a 70-kilometer rail line connecting India to Nepal through a 30-kilometer gauge conversion and new track construction from Jai Nagar to Janakpur, followed by an extension to Bardivas in Nepal. The project is supported by government approval and has received a first installment of INR100m for implementation.

Indian Railways has unveiled plans for a 70km rail line to Nepal.

The government has approved the project, which will be implemented by Indian Railways, and granted a first instalment of INR100m ($2.18m) for the connection, which will cost INR4.7bn ($103.5m). The project includes a 30km gauge conversion from Jai Nagar in India to Janakpur in Nepal, and 40km of new tracks between Janakpur and Bardivas in Nepal, according to The Hindu Business Line.
