Swiss metro-gauge operator Zentralbahn has placed a $138m (CHF141m) order with Stadler for ten inter-regional electric trains.
The fleet includes four seven-car and six three-shuttle trains that can travel at 120kmph. The 126m-long seven-car trains with a capacity of 301 passengers will be used on the Lucerne-Interlaken Ost rail line.

The 54m three-shuttle trains with a capacity of 143 passengers will be used on Brünig services. The trains will gradually replace the existing 40-year-old inter-regional trains from 2013.

The rolling stock expansion will compliment the ongoing infrastructure upgrades on the central line, which will see a revised timetable in December 2013.
