A consortium including Bombardier Transportation has been awarded a US$276m contract for the maintenance and refurbishment of the suburban rail network in São Paulo, Brazil.

The investment project will modernise a total of 264 commuter rail coaches on 78 trains. Work on the 144 Series 2100 coaches will be carried out by Consórcio de Manutenção Ferroviária – a consortium of rail companies Bombardier, Alstom, Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF), MPE, Tejofran and Temoinsa.
The project is scheduled to begin at the end of the year and will continue for approximately four years.
