Introduction

SNCF Réseau is investing over EUR 50 million to renew the Paris–Lyon–Marseille line, with several projects, including the reinforcement of the Blaisy Tunnel and electrical system modernisation, set to be completed by December on the Paris–Dijon rail section.

Blaisy Tunnel Reinforcement

SNCF Réseau is allocating EUR 3.5 million for the reinforcement of the Blaisy Tunnel over a 100-metre section. The project uses sprayed concrete lining to ensure long-term structural stability. A team of 20 workers will be on-site each day, with over 400 hours of socially inclusive employment. The works began on 28 July and will continue until December on weekdays during daylight hours. This schedule allows for peak-time passenger trains, weekend services, and overnight freight traffic to operate on this route.

Electrical System Modernization

Three other major projects are underway in Côte-d’Or and Yonne, focusing on modernising the electrical systems between Dijon and Baulme-la-Roche until December. This EUR 18.7 million operation, financed by SNCF Réseau, includes replacing 414 masts supporting the overhead electric wires. The work utilizes a French-designed overhead line factory train. An average of 130 workers and 15 companies are involved in this effort, which will require scheduled daytime closures of the network.

Centralised Network Control Program

The national Centralised Network Control programme (Commandes Centralisées du Réseau – CCR) aims to digitise and centralise rail traffic management via regional control centres. For the Bourgogne–Franche–Comté region, the control centre is located in Dijon. A signalling upgrade project is ongoing between Fain-lès-Montbard and Nuits-sous-Ravières within this framework. The works started in 2022 and are expected to be completed by mid-2026. In 2025, SNCF Réseau is contributing EUR 22 million to this project, which has a total budget of EUR 118 million.

Project Scope

The Paris–Lyon–Marseille corridor is a key route supporting the operation of 110 trains per day, including passenger and freight services. The works on the Paris–Dijon rail section are fully funded by SNCF Réseau. The aim is to modernise the infrastructure and improve the reliability of rail traffic, while maintaining peak-time passenger services and overnight freight operations.
