German engineering company Siemens has received an order from Mitsui Rail Capital Europe (MRCE) to supply a further ten Vectron-type multisystem locomotives.

Netherlands-based joint subsidiary of Mitsui Japan and Mitsui Europe MRCE will be able to expand its Vectron fleet to 66 locomotives when the order is complete. The company’s CEO Junichi Kondo said: “Based on our positive experience with the Vectron locomotives so far, we have decided to make this purchase.

“These locomotives offer a high degree of flexibility and they will have the possibility to operate in double traction with our existing ES64F4/E189 fleet.” The new locomotives will be used for cross-border operation between Germany, Austria, and Italy and Siemens will carry out the manufacturing at its Munich-Allach facility in Germany.

As well as being equipped with national train control systems, the trains will feature European Train Control System (ETCS). With a maximum output of 6,400KW, they will be capable of travelling at a top speed of 160km/h.

Siemens’ mobility division CEO Jochen Eickholt said: “MRCE not only orders the locomotives, but works closely with us to ensure that their service and maintenance is as efficient as possible with the help of data analytics.”
