The Andean Development Corporation (CAF) has extended a $400m loan to Panama to part-fund Panama City’s Metro Line 1.

The loan will be used to build a 13.6km line that will run from Los Andes district’s San Miguelito neighbourhood in the north of the city to the Albrook bus terminal in the south; the line will have 11 stations.
The project is expected to increase mobility in the Panamanian capital, benefiting those who are living in outlying downtown areas.

Panama’s metro authority signed a $1.45bn contract in November 2010 with a consortium comprising of Spain’s FCC and Brazil’s Odebrecht to build and operate Line 1.
