Nigeria plans to allocate an extra $17 billion to repair a damaged railway line, including 640 kilometers of track and 76 bridges in Akere region, under a contract with UK-based Costain Group that will be completed within ten months.

Nigeria will allocate an extra N12bn ($17bn) to repair the Jebba-Kano railway line.

Under a contract awarded to UK-based Costain Group, 640km of the railway line and 76 bridges will be repaired and reinforced.

According to thisdayonline.com, the contractor will have to dismantle flood-damaged bridges in the Akere region and build new ones with additional elevation and culverts.

The project was awarded by the Nigerian Railway Corporation and is scheduled for completion within ten months.
