The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) board has appointed David Dech as the organization’s next president. The leadership transition from the incumbent, Michael Noland, is scheduled to take effect on March 16.

Dech most recently held the position of executive director at the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA), an agency he joined in August 2022. The SFRTA is the operator of the Tri-Rail commuter rail service in southern Florida.

Previous roles in Dech’s career include vice president of rail operations for the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority in Austin, Texas. His entry into the rail industry was with freight railroad CSX, where he started as a switchman.

The new appointment places Dech in charge of the South Shore Line, a 90-mile electrified commuter railroad. The service operates between South Bend International Airport in Indiana and Millennium Station in Chicago, Illinois.
