Kenya and Uganda Sign New Railway Project Agreement

The governments of Kenya and Uganda have signed an agreement to build and manage a new railway line between Mombasa and Kampala.
The new standard gauge rail line will replace the existing century-old rail line, with branches planned to Kisumu and Tororo in Uganda as well as to Rwanda and southern Sudan.
The agreement requires each government to fund its own share of the railway network.
The rail line is expected to reduce travel times from Nairobi to Mombasa to three hours from the current ten hours.
The project’s feasibility study is being carried out and bids for transaction advisers and design consultants have been advertised.
