IBM SmartCloud will Slovenian Railways Streamline Operations
Slovenian Railways has selected IBM’s SmartCloud solution to centralise its IT systems and improve its business operations and customer service.
The new system, based on IBM SmartCloud Control Desk and IBM Endpoint Manager, part of the IBM MobileFirst Management solutions, will provide a holistic view across all of Slovenian Railways’ freight, passenger and logistics operations.
The railway operates over 1,200km of railway track, transports 15.3 million passengers and carries 15.8 million tonnes of cargo across Slovenia every year.
The move is part of Slovenian Railways’ aim to update its IT infrastructure to manage the growing amount of passengers and goods it transports.
Slovenian Railways wants to create a flexible IT environment to manage the varying requirements of each group and separate IT service desks.
Under the deal, IBM will offer the SmartCloud Control Desk asset and service management software, the Endpoint Manager for mobile device management, and other IBM MobileFirst Management products.
According to IBM, the new service will unite users from the affiliated Slovenian Railways companies under a uniform IT service desk with a single point of contact available across the whole organisation.
With the common IT platform, railway officials will be able to automate and manage systems in real-time, and help secure mobile devices and other ‘end points’ such as servers.
Slovenian Railways CIO Jovanovic Dragomir said that the company needs the best of technologies to provide the highest levels of services to its customers.
“IBM SmartCloud will provide us with a world class, reliable solution to centralise our IT service desk, control cost and leverage mobile solutions,” Dragomir said.
