Bombardier has revealed that it is expecting to sell nearly 1,000 rail cars to India over the next three years.

The forcecast is based on plans by India to invest nearly $17.7bn (INR850bn) in metro rail networks in six cities by 2015, for which 500 rail cars are expected to be needed every year for the next 20 years.
Bombardier Asian passengers division president Kristian Mikkelsen said that the company expects to garner as much as 30% of the Indian market for such coaches.
“We are looking at India as a long-term market,” Mikkelsen said.
Bombardier has already won contracts to supply 424 coaches to the Delhi Metro and is also planning to bid for further orders for metro projects in the cities of Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai.
Bombardier already has metro rail car factories in India, one in Gujarat and another in Savli.
