The Bangladeshi Government will finalise the route of the proposed 21.5km metro-rail network in Dhaka within two weeks, aimed at easing traffic congestion in the capital city.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is meeting 80% of the cost for the $1.7bn project, while the Bangladesh Government will fund the rest.
The feasibility study of the project will commence in March 2011, following the receipt of government approval for the route which would be mostly elevated.
The Dhaka University Authority is said to have requested the government to exclude the central library and the central Shahid Minar from the planned route.
The JICA earlier proposed three routes to be built in three phases, with the first between Pallabi and Hotel Sonargaon crossing, the second between Sonargaon crossing and Sayedabad, and the third linking two major suburbs Pallabi and Uttara, according to The Financial Express.
