Amtrak Discusses for US Rail Tunnel
Amtrak is in discussion with New Jersey’s public transit agency to explore options for two rail tunnels under the Hudson River between Manhattan and New Jersey in the US.
The firm is expected to recycle previous plans for the scuttled Hudson River tunnel project in place of a high-speed rail network.
The tunnels will constitute the first phase of a four-phase, $117bn high-speed rail plan for the Northeast Corridor between Washington and Boston, which is set to be complete by 2050.
The earlier plan was withdrawn by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie due to concerns over cost, which would have overrun to $14bn.
