Alstom has installed Zonegreen’s cloud-based planning software at its Nola rail depot in Italy.

Zonegreen’s web-based application Operator Planning Suite (OPS) replaces Alstom’s traditional whiteboards to manage the daily tasks at the rail depot.
Alstom uses the Nola facility for the maintenance of the high-speed trains operating on the Turin-Salerno and Rome-Venice lines.
Specially designed for the rail sector, OPS uses cloud-based technology to facilitate the sharing of task planning information, including the arrival and departure times of trains.
The system helps operators identify train positions and synchronise maintenance information, through a tabular or graphical layout of the depot.
Operators can also share data to capture activities, generate reports and cut down on manual tasks.
Zonegreen technical director Christian Fletcher said that the installation of the OPS allows all maintenance information to be added to a multi-user system that provides a bird’s eye view of the depot, instead of keeping them handwritten on a board.

“As changes occur at Nola they are now recorded automatically and the updates transmitted immediately, reducing the likelihood of communication failures,” Fletcher said.

Alstom’s fleet operations manager at the Nola depot, Francesco Fidanza, said that plasma screens around the depot display the OPS system so that everyone can visualise train locations and update information accurately.
“It is important for us to share and disseminate maintenance data to different locations in a convenient way and the Zonegreen system enables users with various levels of access to log in from anywhere,” Fidanza said.
High-speed rail operator NTV has invested €90m to build the 140,000m² Nola depot which is used for maintenance of the .italo AGV high-speed rail fleet.
