Prague’s Škoda 52T Trams: Rail Tech & Sustainable Transport
Prague’s DPP unveils new Škoda ForCity Plus 52T trams on Line 12. These modern trams boast advanced features and a framework agreement with Škoda.

Introduction
On November 3, 2025, the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) put the first seven new Škoda ForCity Plus 52T trams into service on Line 12, which runs between Lehovec and Sídliště Barrandov.
Initial Deployment
The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) initially deployed the seven Škoda ForCity Plus 52T trams on Line 12. These trams constitute approximately one-third of the vehicles currently operating on this line. DPP plans to introduce more of these new trams gradually in the upcoming weeks, with a target of 20 vehicles in service by the end of the year. These additional trams will also operate on other routes managed from the Hloubětín depot.
Technical Specifications
The Škoda 52T is a single-ended, 100% low-floor tram, measuring 32 meters in length and weighing 48 tonnes. It includes full air conditioning, LED lighting both internally and externally, and a passenger information system with six screens along the aisle. The tram has a total capacity of up to 243 passengers, with 70 seats. Five double doors facilitate passenger boarding.
Technological Features
The new trams feature an electromechanical brake system, designed for quieter operation, reduced maintenance, and improved braking precision. They are also equipped with an anti-collision system utilizing LiDAR technology.
Procurement and Testing
In October, the new trams received approval following technical tests. These tests involved traveling 20,000 km without passengers and an additional 20,000 km with passengers. In December 2023, DPP and Škoda Group signed a framework agreement for the supply of up to 200 ForCity Plus 52T trams, with an estimated value of EUR 670 million. The initial firm order was for 40 trams. An additional 20 trams will be added next year, and the transport company has an option to procure the remaining 140 trams.
Conclusion
The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) has launched the Škoda ForCity Plus 52T trams on Line 12, with plans for further deployment. The trams include advanced features and were procured through a framework agreement with Škoda Group.
