Smart Train Lease GmbH will supply three Mireo Smart regional trains to Trans Regio Deutsche Regionalbahn GmbH for passenger service on the RB 32 line in the Ahr Valley, starting in December 2025. Operational Details and Route

The RB 32 line will operate electrically and non-stop, connecting Ahrbrück with Koblenz and Boppard via Remagen. The route will utilize the rebuilt and electrified Ahr Valley Railway, which was impacted by the 2021 flood. The service is expected to commence with the timetable change in December 2025.

Fleet and Features

Each Mireo Smart unit will offer 214 seats, including 12 in a dedicated first-class area, and space for up to 21 bicycles in multi-purpose areas. Approximately 20 new train drivers will be hired for the services, with training provided at Trans Regio’s Remagen depot.

Maintenance and Technology

Maintenance will be supported by an eight-year service agreement with Siemens Mobility, which will provide spare parts, technical support, and digital fleet monitoring. The trains will be fully connected to Railigent X, enabling condition-based maintenance, while the CORMAP digital platform will support core maintenance planning. They will also be integrated into Trans Regio’s Koblenz workshops.
